Now Hiring: Part-Time Academic Coach
Part-Time | $20/hr | Houston & Surrounding Counties | 6–10 Hours Per Week
Openwork is partnering with a youth-focused organization to bring Academic Coaches into a program designed to support students in foster care. This opportunity is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping young people succeed academically, build confidence, and develop long-term success skills. Academic Coaches work with adolescents and young adults ages 14–25 who are currently in or transitioning out of foster care. You will provide academic tutoring, study support, and mentorship while helping students strengthen organization, time management, and goal-setting skills—all while preparing for future success, including college and post-secondary pathways. Coaching sessions may occur virtually, in person, or through a hybrid format, based on student needs. Training is provided prior to placement.
This role requires travel throughout Houston, Harris County, and surrounding counties. Candidates must be able to travel to the following zip codes as needed: 77053, 77051, 77061, and 77088. Reliable transportation is required.
Hours are very part-time, averaging 6–10 hours per week.
Provide one-on-one and group tutoring support
Assist students with assignments, homework, and exam preparation
Help students build study habits, organization, and time management skills
Guide students through college and post-secondary application processes when applicable
Maintain accurate records of attendance and academic progress
Build positive, encouraging, and professional relationships with students
Experience working with adolescents and young adults ages 14–25 (required)
Background in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or youth development
Ability to travel to various sites within the service region, including 77053, 77051, 77061, and 77088
Strong communication skills, patience, and professionalism
Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience considered
Proficiency in academic subjects required for tutoring
Must be available after 4:00 PM Monday–Thursday
Able to commit to 6–10 hours per week
